Here is what we did last week:
11.15: We completed a test reflection on the cell transport test. Overall many students did a very nice job on this test and the students seem to be getting a good feel for what to put into the test reflections and how it can help them in the future.
11.16: We completed a cell size lab with jello like agar. We took the agar and cut it into 4 different sized cubes and put them in hydrochloric acid. Then we watched the cubes turn color. They had a indicator that turned yellow when the acid reached it. The smallest cubes turned yellow first and the larger cubes took much more time. The reason is that the surface area to volume ratio of a small cube is MUCH higher than the surface area to volume ratio of a larger cube. This means that there is more surface area for each little bit of volume on a small cube so the acid can diffuse into the center much faster.
11.18: We took notes on the stages of the cell cycle and then focused in on the stages of mitosis. As a part of the notes we watched the below video. Their homework due on Tuesday is to draw out or describe the different phases of mitosis.
